Spud has been trying to get ahead in a few anime themed mmorpg games but has wasted too much time between the three below:

Dream of Mirror Online - Cutesy, addictive, simple

Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine - very Japanese-y, with lots of JPN names

Conventional fantasy mmorpg titles like Shaiya, Last Chaos, Perfect World, and WOW didn't offer the style or community that the above do.

2.5D games like Battle of the Immortals looks tempting as the system requirements and pretty battle animations seem more in line with what has been missing - a top view mmo experience like DotA or even Diablo 2.

Out of the 3 anime themed mmorpgs, Grand Fantasia is the most fun in terms of community, ingame staff like GMs and GSs, quest difficulty, equipment and weapon designs, and environment. But it could do with a bit more diversity in terms of mobs. The bosses, superboss monsters are impressively massive but remind you of FFXII and Monster Hunter. It would be great to see the introduction of "mega-boss" sized monsters that take armies to tackle, not just a few high level players who bought their way to the top. In all free mmorpgs, it would be great to see a lot more instances and story developments along the way like in Guild Wars, but I guess there is only so much devs can do when making a free mmo.
